A Brief History of TJA

Trojan Junior Auxiliary is one of USC’s oldest alumnae groups, and a member of the Alumnae Coordinating Council. In its seventy years, TJA has continually grown and changed with the goals of its members. However, some things do remain constant. From the founding objectives in 1936, we carry the desire to ardently support the young women following closely behind us, building lasting relationships, developing our talents, and sharing our mutual commitment to the University of Southern California.

TJA’s primary objective is to raise and grant scholarships to junior and senior women at USC. The scholarships we offer are merit based. This means when we consider a candidate for a scholarship, we only take into account her personal and scholastic accomplishments. Granting scholarships to junior and senior women supports them in the key, final stages of their undergraduate education. It also allows transfer students to compete for scholarship funds, one of the few opportunities offered to them through the USC Alumni Association.

We raise money for these scholarships in various ways. Each year, TJA hosts a spring benefit – a more formal affair, complete with a silent auction, food, beverages, and entertainment. We raise added funds each year by soliciting patrons for our program and by marketing several products during the USC football season. TJA sponsors annual scholarships and saves toward an endowment with the proceeds from these endeavors.
